As a psychiatrist, you know that social media can be a great way to connect with potential and current patients. And what better platform to use than Instagram? With over 800 million active users, Instagram is one of the most popular social media platforms.

I've got a lot of expertise regarding what NOT to do when marketing a private psychiatry practice on social media. But, given the current popularity of social networking and Instagram marketing, I'd be remiss not to address it. So I enlisted the assistance of a specialist to explain how to advertise yourself as a therapist on Instagram.

But, if I tried to cover it all, I'd have to include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms. 

Is Social Media a Good Strategy for Private Mental Health Practice? Yes! Instagram has over 1 billion monthly active users, with over 500 million daily active users, according to Hootsuite. So your target market may be on Instagram. It's simply a question of knowing how to locate them!

But, there are various ways for every one of us to connect with those signing in to Instagram. 

Here are some tips on how to promote your therapy services on Instagram:

To begin with, you'll need to create a new practice account for your physical therapy business. It's not a good idea to utilize your account. A company account comes with additional tools that could be useful.

Make sure your bio, a short description of your practice, and the services you provide are flawless. Remember that you have a strict limit of 150 characters to work with; make efficient use of them. It takes just a few seconds for someone to get an impression of your page based on what you say.

As a result, the content of your bio is essential. It's the first thing that people notice when they go to your profile. Additionally, include a photo of yourself and your work so that others recognize you and what you do.

Hashtags are an excellent strategy for expanding your reach. When utilizing hashtags, remember that popular and appropriate ones will assist users in finding your content. Consider hashtags like various parties — each with a distinct location, theme, and guest list. It's as if you attend parties where everyone is looking for what you have to offer since you use relevant hashtags to your target audience.

For example, if you're a CBT therapist wanting to connect with prospective patients, you might utilize hashtags like #CBTtherapist #cognitivebehavioraltherapy #anxietyhelp #mentalhealthmatters #stressed, etc. When potential customers look up these hashtags, they'll see your postings and find your page. The seasons when I use Instagram more actively are when I'm posting more frequently, but I'm not engaging with other people's accounts. When I am also interacting with others on my page, there are many more followers and involvement.

Use Instagram Stories.

Stories are a great way to connect with your audience more personally. Share behind-the-scenes content, answer FAQs, or give insights into your therapy process. Stories are also a great way to promote events or workshops that you might be running.

 People want to know who you are, what you do, and why you do it. So share your story with your followers. Let them know what drives you and why you're passionate about therapy. When people feel connected to you, they're more likely to reach out and seek help from you.

The Don'ts of How to Market Yourself as a Therapist on Instagram

With all that I've said about how beneficial Instagram can be in growing your business, it's easy to see how a disaster might occur if not handled carefully. The following are some Instagram faux pas to avoid:

Heartless likes

Don't devote all of your energy to liking others' postings in the hopes of getting discovered. Instead, make sure you're engaging with each other genuinely.

Regurgitating content

Only share other people's material via reposts or quotations from others. People want to see YOU — photographs of you, your opinions, and your values — not someone else's. Make sure your account is genuinely YOUnique. It's OK to include some quotations from others occasionally, but you want your unique self to be its primary focus.

Limitations of Instagram As A Mental Health Marketing Strategy

Keep in mind that Instagram is not a therapist search engine. It's more likely to be where potential customers look for a therapist if you don't already know where they're looking. You may make yourself more apparent elsewhere online through search engine optimization (SEO) or other search engines and by listing yourself in mental health directories like Psychology Today to increase your visibility.

However, Instagram is a fantastic platform to help you build your brand and develop an audience that will come back to you if they are seeking a therapist in the future.

Also, figure out how to get the most out of your social media presence. Have you been using Instagram for a long time? If so, this may be an excellent marketing technique for your clinic. On the other hand, do you refuse to use social media? Several alternative digital marketing methods may be a better fit for your practice if that's the case.
